New Abu Dhabi airport tower ready this year
Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) said its new air traffic control tower will be ready later this year, marking the first completed project in the US$6.8 billion (Dh25bn) redevelopment of the capital’s airport.
Officials revealed that the 110-metre tall structure will be illuminated from the inside and act like a beacon to aircraft and even motorists on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai expressway. “It will resemble a torch in the evenings,” said Rudy Vercelli, the chief executive of ADAC.
Faced with the ambitious growth plans of its local carrier, Etihad Airways, which expects to receive more than 100 aircraft over the next decade, Abu Dhabi is building the Midfield Terminal to cope with the anticipated growth in passenger traffic.
