Abu Dhabi's new airport tower to open this year
Facility will be nerve centre of the new international airport
Abu Dhabi's new air traffic control centre tower (ATC) is scheduled to begin operations by the middle of this year, a source close to the developments at the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) told Gulf News on Thursday.
"The air traffic control tower is a part of the $6.8 billion (Dh25 billion) redevelopment plan for Abu Dhabi International Airport," he said.
With regard to the new ATC tower the ADAC source said that Thales is involved in the technology and in integrating the systems and command centre. In late 2008, ADAC awarded the French company Thales a $36.7 million contract for the tower.
The 109 metre, 20-storey tower is situated between the first and second runways at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The tower will take over the role as the nerve centre of the new airport.
