A new building code is to be implemented across Abu Dhabi from next January, the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) has revealed.
The International Building Code (IBC) - plans for which were first announced last year - will deliver better buildings for people to live and work in, said DMA.
The launch date was announced after a meeting of the Building Codes Higher Committee (BCHC), an Abu Dhabi Government-backed panel formed to ensure the smooth adaptation, development and implementation of the code across the emirate.
"The code will mean improved public health and safety in homes and offices, greater energy efficiency and ultimately buildings that are more durable and long-lasting," said Rashid Mubarak Al Hajeri, Chairman of the DMA and BCHC. "We are committed to a smooth transition phase made possible through training workshops and awareness seminars."
The codes will be applied throughout Abu Dhabi by administrators, construction design professionals and developers, and will be enforced by the authorities.
